Since the age of 2, my son has struggled with his speech/ language development, focusing his attention and impulse control. He’s been labeled “aggressive,” “dangerous,” and “violent” by the people trusted to care for him. Since 2 years old, he’s been kicked out of 6 daycare centers and 3 summer camps. My son has struggled to find acceptance and a sense of belonging within institutions not particularly designed for Black boys with disabilities. We’ve since found a village of Black men at MBK who were dedicated to my son’s growth and development, not just in martial arts but in life. They promised us that they would NEVER give up on this Black boy and they haven’t. Since beginning at MBK in September, he has earned his second belt and we could not be more proud. MBK has made this victory possible!

Both of my young children have been attending for 9 months and it has been a positive experience for them both. It’s hard work for them but they enjoy the challenge, physical activity, and setting/achieving new goals. It’s been a joy to watch their confidence strengthen as they persevere and learn new skills. In a crazy world, I am confident that my children will continue grow and face challenges head on with improved confidence in themselves.
Thank you for everything you are teaching them and for having a skilled team that I can call role models to my children.

When your child earns to just be like all the other children you want to provide that emotional comfort to the best of your ability as a parent. Some days you have to rely on other people to support that cause throughout life. My wife and I decided to enroll our son at Maryland's best karate and they have not fell one bit short. I have exceeded our expectations. Our son is thriving and grasping their concepts and traditions quite well through their professional, graceful, and compassionate teaching. My 7 year old has been enrolled at MBSOK for almost a year now. Zach had zero experience or exposure to martial arts when he started. It’s taken a lot of practice and hard work but yesterday he had his 3rd belt test and earned his gold stripe! Very proud of him! Under Master Kameren he is learning perseverance and discipline — two traits that are benefiting him greatly in school and life in general. My husband and I highly recommend MBSOK. All of the instructors are awesome and the school has a genuine family feel.

MD's Best School of Karate is exactly as it says, the BEST. The instructors take their time with each student, giving them the exact kind of instruction they need in order to learn. The lessons taught go way beyond the dojang with their tenants of taekwondo and are expected to be upheld at home and school. Students are held accountable for their behavior on and off the mat and it is instilled early that nothing is given and rewards/ promotions are earned. Respect and self confidence are just two of the many valuable lessons I have seen flourish in my 8 year old, who has been apart of this school for over 3 years now. He went from not speaking up and being shy to having a sense of pride in his skill, wanting to lead class, and addressing his superiors with yes/no ma'am/sir. I'm extremely thankful to MD's Best and their staff for what they have taught their students thus far and highly recommend this school to anyone.

Both my sons (9 & 4) have been attending with the oldest being there for 2 years now. The attention to detail their instructor, Kameren Dawson, provides is amazing. Everything is earned which helps the kids set goals and work hard to achieve them. He holds each one accountable not only in in class but in school as well. My oldest has gone the entire year with straight A’s on his report card. Not only are we excited and proud of him but he feels accomplished and genuinely excited about school. My 4 year old is advancing pretty quick because he wants to be just like his big brother. To top it off, I have recently joined up for the adult program. I needed to get in shape and why not practice Martial Arts. I have a new found respect for what my kids are doing each time they step on the mat. It’s definitely not easy but it feels great to work out, learn the forms and self defense. If you have kids, bring them. The confidence they will build will definitely show. Great atmosphere! Great place! Great people! We are a village!
